Types Of Sneakerheads
The term “Sneakerhead” has taken the world by storm. You’ll see it in magazines, on social media and on television. Ever since Michael Jordan was fined $5,000 per game for wearing a pair of Nikes called the Jordan 1 that did not meet regulation in 1985, people have shown interest in high fashion sneakers. It was after this moment that sneakers went from being just a regular shoe to a fashion staple. More than 3 decades later, we are left with a multibillion dollar industry with Nike leading the pack. There are different kinds of Sneakerheads, so we have broken down a few different categories below for your viewing pleasure.
The Hype Beast
This particular type of Sneakerhead is a person or group of people that wants the latest and greatest sneaker RIGHT when it comes out. Whether they love a certain colorway and keep their eyes out for it or they are inspired by celebrities like Michael Jordan, this type of Sneakerhead wants to be ahead of the game and in on all the action. Limited edition shoes are the Hype Beast’s forté and they are willing to drop top dollar to be ahead of everyone else. They may even buy multiple pairs of the same shoe.
An Enthusiast is a Sneakerhead that buys sneakers because they genuinely love the hunt for rare and exclusive sneakers. They may also buy multiple pairs of the same shoe because they have a collection that they are very proud of. Enthusiasts get a high off of the sneaker hunt and love the term “Enthusiast” because they want to be recognized for their collections that are full of shoes that may have been on display for years.
The OG Sneakerhead has been around longer than a majority of the Sneakerhead population. They have famous sneakers from the 80s, 90s, 00s, you name it - they probably have it. You can hold a very educated conversation about sneakers with an OG and they will tell you things that you may have never known before. They may have an older collection and stay away from the newer sneakers, but they have a lot of respect for Sneakerheads of all ages. Although an OG may believe in rocking their sneakers, having a collection is just as important to them.
The Collector owns a vast amount of rare finds in the sneaker world, samples that are extremely valuable, and special editions. Collectors have no problem opening up their pocket book and spending upwards of thousands of dollars to obtain the classics (or soon to be classics). They will also pose sneakers in a way that appeals to fellow Sneakerheads and they are great at marketing every pair of sneakers that they own.
The Reseller is not exactly the most respected type of Sneakerhead in the sneaker world. They will buy a limited edition shoe and price it extremely high just to make a profit. If a shoe is hot on the market, they will raise the price of it as much as they want because they know there are people like the Collector and the Hype Beast that will buy it. There are several factors that go into the pricing of these type of shoes and The Reseller is on top of it at all times. Not all Resellers are out to rip off other Sneakerheads, but unfortunately there are many that do.
