The Evolution Of Basketball Shoes (Part 2)
The game of basketball has been around since 1891. The shoe industry is booming and basketball shoes have revolutionized since the beginning of their existence. Last week, we discussed the shoes that were popular from the 1960s to the 1980s. This week, we will talk about the most popular shoes in the basketball industry from the 1990s through today!
1990s - Nike Air Foamposite
The next generation of NBA superstars also brought a wave of new basketball shoes. Michael Jordan still dominated the game, but his Air Jordan XIs weren’t the only shoes that would be noticed. With rising stars comes new basketball shoes. Penny Hardaway, for example, had his own Air Penny line with Nike and wore some of the most fascinating shoes to hit the court in years. The shoes on his feet were none other than the Nike Air Foamposite One. The futuristic look of these shoes displayed metal optics, durability, and a modern look. In this decade, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman, also had a huge impact with their Nike endorsements.
2000s - Nike Hyperdunk
The coming of the new millennium was anything but ordinary. 2008 was a revolutionary year for basketball. The Boston Celtics broke their 22 year Championship losing streak, the American Basketball Team won a gold medal at the Olympic Games, and Nike came out with the best shoe for athletes that weren’t endorsed just yet. At the 2008 Games, Nike revealed the Hyperdunk. The colorways were perfect for patriotic basketball players and helped people all around the world root for Team USA. Hyperdunks became one of the most popular sneakers and opened a doorway to future design innovation.
Today - Adidas Harden Volume 1
One of the best shooting guards to play in the NBA, Superstar James Harden, joined forces with the three stripe gang that is Adidas to bring us the Adidas Harden Volume 1. Many different athletes boosted Adidas’ brand such as Damian Lillard, Derrick Rose, and Andrew Wiggins. Although, Nike still reigned with players on their side including the king himself, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, and Kyrie Irving.
