Influential Sneakers and the Celebrities that Brought them to the Top (Part 2)
Last week, we mentioned the undeniable influence that celebrities have on the sneaker world. A few particular celebrities have led the way in sneaker fashion making us want to grab a pair and keep up with current trends while getting ahead of the game on new ones. Here is the second part of our list of celebrities that have changed sneaker culture one pair at a time.
Pharrell - BAPE
Pharrell has always been a style king, especially in the 2000s. He was once known as Skateboard P before he took the name Pharrell. Once he decided that he wanted to rock Japanese fashion, he helped bring Nigo’s army of BAPE sneakers and apparel to the surface. This inspired other Sneakerheads to search for rare pairs in Japan via the Internet.
Lil Wayne - Supra
In 2012, Lil Wayne made a deal with Supra and caught a number of people off guard. Most people were surprised by this deal because he had been wearing shoes of all different types and brands. High tops were mostly just a curiosity shoe until Weezy starting rocking them. Now, Supra is a successful brand with a variety of styles.
Run DMC - Adidas Superstars
In 1986, Run DMC had a legendary performance of “My Adidas” at Madison Square Garden and it was nothing short of extraordinary.
All the fans were rapping the song at the tops of their lungs while holding up their pairs of Superstars. This moment went down in history. Adidas then gave the crew their own deal, which was known as one of the first non-athlete moves by a shoe company.
A$AP Rocky - Adidas x Jeremy Scott
A number of celebrities have worn Jeremy Scott’s distinctive shoes on occasion, but A$AP Rocky has been steadily rocking them for ages and continues to do so in 2018. A$AP’s style is unparalleled and not every celebrity can pull off such over-the-top outfits that Rocky is known for creating.
